This guide will assist in helping to locate resources relating to the study of children's literature at Mississippi College.

Databases

To find academic articles that can be used for your assignments, you can look at the databases available at the library.  You can search the databases on various subjects, including Children's Literature.  The following are a few recommended databases for this course.

Browse or search for a specific topic in these magazines & journals.  Great resources for book reviews.
 
  • Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
    Provides indepth reviews of current children's books.  This print title is located on the library 2nd floor in Periodicals.

  • Book Links
    Children's book reviews indexed in database Education Research Complete.
  • Children's Literature Association Quarterly
    "Each issue features an editorial introduction, juried articles about research and scholarship in children's literature, and book reviews."
  • Children's Literature Review   -  Call no. 028.5 C437 R Print found in Library Reference Room on Main Floor
    This illustrated series covers more than 600 writers and illustrators for children and young adults. Typical entries consist of a listing of major works and awards and criticism from significant reviews and commentaries on the author's or artist's works.  (Annual cumulative title index found in Reference Room with Children's literature review volumes)
  • The Horn Book
    Horn Book Guide publishes short, critical reviews of virtually every hardcover trade book published in the United States for young people.
  • The Lion and the Unicorn
    Tis international theme and genre-centered journal "is committed to a serious ongoing discussion of literature for children."
  • School Library Journal
    Includes articles on school library issues and reviews of books, DVDs, CDs, from preschool through young adult as well as professional resources.
