An annotated bibliography is a list of sources, with a summary or commentary provided for each source (shown in blue in the following example). When done well, an annotated bibliography makes writing your final paper much easier; the notes your make about each website, article or report you've collected will help you decide what information is valuable and what isn't. Annotated bibliographies help you to focus. 

The following example is the first page of an annotated bib formatted in APA Style. The organization and spacing of your sources is important. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your annotated bib:

• Don't use the source's abstract as an annotation. All written work must be your own.Use your own words to describe the source's content and how you think you might use it in your finished product.
• Use complete sentences and correct grammar. While these annotations should be useful to you, this is also a formal writing assignment.
• Each source and note must be double-spaced and indented. All assignments should be submitted in Times New Roman, 12-point font.
• Consult Purdue Owl and library copies of the APA style guide for examples of correct citation formatting.
