How to interpret Call Numbers and Locations

In order to locate a book, the user needs to look at the record to see where it is located in the building, where it is on the shelf, and if it is currently available.

In the example below, the book is in the basement (where most of our books are). It also gives you the call number which tells what shelf it is on. In addition, under status it indicates that it is available to be checked out because it says "Check Shelves".

In the example below the book is checked out. This is indicated under status which has the due date for the book. If you need a book that is checked out you can put it on hold by contacting the Main Desk to help you put a hold on the item.

In the example below, the status states that the book is Recently Returned. This means that someone just returned the book. Since, it was recently received, it likely can be located by going to the Main Desk and asking for the book.

In the example below, the book's location is in the MC Collection and the status in Non-circulation. This means that the item is in the Archives on the 3rd floor and can not be checked out. However, it can be used in Archives reading room.
