E-books: Download Ebooks for Offline Use

Links and help in using ebooks at Speed Library.

First, create an account

First, you must create an account with EBSCOhost, the provider of the library's ebooks. On the main page of the E-book Collection database, choose "Sign in" on the blue bar at the top of the webpage. From there, you can choose "Create a new account."

Once you have an account and download an ebook for offline use, the ebook will be added to your "Checkouts Folder" on your EBSCOhost account. The checkout period is 1 - 7 days, and you can pick your preferred checkout period. You don't have to worry about returning the item. After the due date, the item will be listed as "expired" on your device and will be unavailable to open. From there, you can choose to "return" the item but you will not be fined should you forget to do so!

Ways to download

How to download an ebook for offline use:

For your computer, you must download Adobe Digital Editions

Adobe Digital Editions is a free download and requires you to create an Adobe account before allowing any downloads. Once downloaded, Digital Editions arranges all ebooks and downloads into a personal library. Ebooks that are downloaded from Speed Library will be listed under the "Borrowed" tab.

For Apple and Android devices, EBSCOhost recommends using Bluefire Reader

Both the Apple iOS and Android download options for Bluefire Reader are free.

For Kindle, you can download a PDF of the ebook and transfer it to your device using the 'Send to Kindle' option.

All ebooks should be viewable on any Kindle eReader device, the Kindle app on iPhone or Android devices, or through the Kindle for the Chrome browser.
