Special Collections Assistant

The Mississippi Baptist Historical Commission is an agency of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board and serves as the state-wide depository for Southern Baptist church records.  We are composed of primary and secondary sources relating to Mississippi Baptist history, most notably Mississippi Baptist churches and associations. The Commission also maintains biographical information on Mississippi Baptist preachers and other significant individuals relating to the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Materials are available in a variety of formats, including published books, unpublished manuscripts, microfilm, serials, including The Baptist Record, digital files, vertical files, oral histories, and photographs.


Title: Special Collections Assistant

Hours: 15-20hr/wk
(We are open M-F 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.  Hours are flexible during this time frame.)

Pay: $12.25/hr


  • Compile church History Highlights from materials in the MBHC collection (data input)
  • Filing and shelving of materials
  • Finding/Copying/Filing MC related articles in local papers
  • Prepare materials for bindery and microfilming
  • Assist patrons in person and through phone and email
  • Index weekly newspaper, The Baptist Record
  • Help supervise student worker
  • Help create a warm and welcoming environment for our patrons
  • Assist Special Collections Librarian with other tasks


  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal  skills
  • Familiarity working with people
  • Ability to lift boxes weighing approx. 25-30 pounds
  • Active and growing Christian faith at a Baptist church
  • College degree and work experience preferred
